Keep your teeth healthy

Our teeth are precious to us, to feed us certainly, but also to guarantee us a nice smile to favor our social relations. It is therefore essential to take great care!
Caries factors
Food factors:
Are elements that favor caries?
Foods rich in carbohydrates and both sweet and acidic beverages, such as sodas,
Certain deficiencies in calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, fluorine.
The tendency to snack.
Dental Plaque: After each meal, a soft, sticky coating of food debris and bacteria forms on the surface of the teeth. The acidity produced by certain bacteria in contact with sugary foods materializes the surface of the enamel. The tooth is then more or less destroyed and caries appear.
Tartar: It results from the calcification of dental plaque. It is a rough deposit, rich in bacteria and adhering to the teeth. Accumulated between the teeth and at their base, near the gums, it promotes the development of gingivitis and periodontist.
Oral hygiene: To prevent dental problems we have a wide range of effective “tools” to ensure our oral hygiene:
Brushing: Brushing for 3 minutes, 3 times a day, after each meal, removes plaque. Brushing at night is especially important because saliva production is less important at night. The teeth are therefore less protected.
The brushes:
The choice of the toothbrush should be judicious. Brushes with hard bristles are to be avoided because they can damage the gums and cannot penetrate the spaces between the teeth.
The electric brush facilitates movement and its small size allows it to go into every corner of the mouth. It eliminates 2 times more plaque than an ordinary brush for the same brushing time.
When the spaces between the teeth are widened, the complementary use of an interdental brush is advised.
The tongue brush eliminates the many bacteria present on its surface.
Brushes should be changed every 3 months.
Toothpaste:
Fluoride toothpaste is recommended. Fluorine strengthens the enamel by making it less sensitive to acids. The recommended amount of toothpaste is 500 pm for children under 6 years of age and 1250 pm for adults.
Normally, fluoride is present in water and cooking salt; some mineral waters contain up to 8 mg / liter. An additional intake of toothpaste is not always necessary if you are not predisposed to cavities, risk left to the discretion of your dentist.
The amount of toothpaste to use is that of a pea.
Dental floss is useful for cleaning between teeth.
The irrigate can dislodge food debris. It is particularly useful in bridges (fixed prostheses).
Mouthwashes are to be used on an ad hoc basis. Their antiseptics destroy the oral bacterial flora, but some bacteria are needed. Some make it easier to remove plaque. Others, supplemented with fluorine, will have an anti-caries effect.
Chewing sugar-free chewing gum, by increasing saliva production, contributes to good dental health.
Periodic checks at the dentist
An annual visit is recommended and even 2 in children and from 50 years, and in any person at risk. It’s easier, and less expensive, to prevent rather than cure!
